ABIRAMI SINGHAM
Abirami came under the tutelage of Anandavalli at the age of six in 1987. One of the first students of the Lingalayam Dance Academy, she presented her Arangetram in 2004, going on to present her first solo performance in Bangalore, India in January 2005. Abi’s initial season with the Lingalayam Dance Company was in Earth & Fire in 2003. She was one of five company dancers involved with coordinating and presenting Tarangini, a concert for charity, in 2006. A dancer who strives at attaining technical and emotional perfection, her input pays clear dividends in the elegant dignity of her performance delivery. The re-staging of Earth & Fire in 2007 saw Abi execute with depth and conviction the role of Mayasita. Abi was a cast member of Rasa Unmasked, Lingalayam’s collaborative work with Malaysia’s Ramli Ibrahim/Sutra Dance Theatre and ethnomusicologist Alex Dea-that in 2009 after a sold-out season at the Sydney Opera House toured to Malaysia, The Esplanade, Singapore and India. Involved in Chi Udaka’s second stage of creative development, Abi fell pregnant with her second child and was unable to perform in its premiere season.
